Touched by the Lady of the Realm, Liên dreams of bones and bodies under the sea. The prescient warnings from the Lady weigh heavily on Liên, who is burdened by her inability to save everyone. But she knows that the Lady speaks most to those who listen. Set against the background of the Vietnam/American war we follow Liên’s path across five decades that are punctuated by endless war and suffering.Yet even in the most desperate of times, Liên refuses to be ruled by fear and anger and persists in her hope for a peaceful future.
In tender, lucid prose Hoa Pham distils painful decades of Vietnam’s past into a beautiful Buddhist story of hope, survival and the possibility of transformation for everyone.—Nicholas Jose, novelist. Gardasil: Fast-Tracked and Flawedby Helen LobatoIn Gardasil: Fast-Tracked and Flawed Helen Lobato argues that we do not know whether HPV vaccines will decrease the incidence of cervical cancer. What is emerging, however, is evidence of their harmful effects. In 2006, the experimental HPV vaccination program began and there have been at least 315 associated deaths and more than 50,000 adverse events following HPV vaccination. Gardasil: Fast-Tracked and Flawed documents the early history of cervical cancer and tracks its progression from a disease of obscurity to one of mainstream prominence. It includes the stories of vaccinated girls and boys who remain ill after receiving a vaccine purported to prevent a disease they were most unlikely to get. It records the voices of dissenters and resisters who call for an inquiry into HPV vaccines approved for use after a relentless propaganda campaign promoting a vaccine against a virus that many had never heard of.
A brilliant, well-researched exposé on the terrifying consequences of HPV vaccination for many children that will make all parents question its benefits. — Stephen Tunley, SaneVax.Forthcoming release for July Ann Hannah, My (Un)Remarkable Grandmother: A Psychological BiographyWritten with a sharp feminist consciousness that displays both compassion and intellect, this astute psychological biography tells the story of a resilient woman and provides invaluable insight into the realities of many (un)remarkable women who have fashioned meaningful lives out of circumstances beyond their control. Starts the most fascinating conversations about our forgotten grandmothers.—Gina MercerBook launches and author events
Lady of the Realm by Hoa Pham was launched by Susan Hawthorne at Global Local: Sharing Stories With The World on Saturday June 3 at the Eltham Library. At Global Local, Susan Hawthorne, author of Cow, and Lupa and Lamb spoke about the Sanskrit practice of shlesha, the ability to say multiple things at once. She also discussed her experiments in imaginative translations that she created for her book Lupa and Lamb. Hoa Pham, author of Lady of The Realm, and Wave spoke about the ramifications of having her work translated into Vietnamese in Vietnam and the loss of potential audiences if translations don’t take place because of political embargoes.

The book launch of Gardasil: Fast-Tracked and Flawed took place on June 9 and was launched by women's health researcher Dr Renate Klein at the Kathleen Syme library and community centre.
Robert Jensen was Australia in June. His very busy tour started with two appearances at the 2017 Sydney Writers Festival after which he travelled to speaking events in Victoria and Tasmania. It was a packed schedule and Robert was a great speaker. Book Reviews Abigail Bray, author of Misogyny Re-loaded reviews Prostitution Narratives: Stories of Survival in the Sex Trade
One thing that struck me in reading this book is the determined solidarity at work in the whole project. This solidarity, this unshakable integrity, dignity of purpose, and will to justice and healing will ultimately overcome the lies of the sexual abuse industry and their apologists. — Abigail Bray, DignityForthcoming author events khulud khamis author of Haifa Fragments is a guest at the 2017 Greenbelt Festival held in the UK. Greenbelt is a festival of arts, faith and justice and is on 25-28 August. In addition to a book reading, she'll be taking part in The Red Tent. According to khulud, "the red tent will be a place of refuge, a place of honesty, a place of fun and empowerment. And it will be hosted by a group of great Greenbelt women."
But Haifa Fragments is a special book, a novel set as the title suggests in Haifa, a city where I spent time a while back, on a subject that has been dear to my heart for over a quarter of a century.—Sara Dowse Book Launch of Lady of the Realm at Readings Bookshop, Carlton Wednesday, 02-Aug-2017 6:30 pm Lady of the Realm will be launched by Alice Pung, award-winning writer, journalist and essayist.

Authors in the media

Independents bring knowledge of the local – of local culture, language and perspectives – that provides depth and richness to the books that are published. Organic publishing takes time. It means treating every book and every writer of the book in context. It means taking account of the author’s intentions. I believe that organic publishing produces better books.–Susan Hawthorne in 'Paper News': The Independent Publisher's Quarterly, Berlin (No. 7, 2017)
