Welcome to the March edition of The Spin
This year 2016 is a very exciting year for us- It's our 25th Anniversary.
Spinifex Press is celebrating 25 years of feminist publishing. Publishers of Spinifex Press: Renate Klein and Susan Hawthorne
Hawthorne told Books+Publishing the publisher counts among its biggest achievements its balance of local and international titles, its rights sales and work with international publishers, and ‘keeping ahead of the cultural curve both in terms of the content of our books and our technological initiatives with websites, interactive fiction and ebooks’.
Spinifex’s plans for its anniversary year include a conference in April in conjunction with RMIT called ‘The World’s Oldest Oppression’, which will include the launch Prostitution Narratives: Stories of Survival in the Sex Trade (ed by Caroline Norma and Melinda Tankard Reist); a event in September called ‘That’s Feminism’; and several other yet-to-be-announced plans.Forthcoming Title Prostitution Narratives: Stories of Survivial in the Sex TradeEdited by Caroline Norma and Melinda Tankard Reist For too long the global sex industry and its vested interests have dominated the prostitution debate repeating the same old line that ‘sex work’ is just like any job. In large sections of the media, academia, public policy, government and the law, the sex industry has had its way. Little is said of the damage, violation, suffering, and torment of prostitution on the bodies and minds of mostly women and children, nor of the deaths, suicides and murders are routine in the sex industry. Edited by Caroline Norma and Melinda Tankard Reist, Prostitution Narratives documents the reality of prostitution revealing the cost to the lives of women and girls.

Hear from survivors of the sex trade, and abolitionist activists including Rachel Moran, author of Paid For. My Journey Through Prostitution.

Spinifex Press has sold film rights to ‘Alice in Larundel Land’ from The Mad Poet’s Tea Party (Sandy Jeffs).
Wave an elegant story of love and mythology written by Hoa Pham and published by Spinifex Press will be made into a movie by Australia's Vue group.
  Congratulations go to Merlinda Bobis for her new award. The Golden Bikolnon Service for Bikol Award for her achievements in Literature and the Performance Arts from the Ateneo de Naga University. Merlinda is the author of many books by Spinifex, her latest is Locust Girl: a lovesong
