Prostitution Narratives: Stories of Survival in the Sex Trade Edited by Caroline Norma and Melinda Tankard Reist
For too long the global sex industry and its vested interests have dominated the prostitution debate repeating the same old line that ‘sex work’ is just like any job. In large sections of the media, academia, public policy, government and the law, the sex industry has had its way. Little is said of the damage, violation, suffering, and torment of prostitution on the bodies and minds of mostly women and children, nor of the deaths, suicides and murders are routine in the sex industry. Edited by Caroline Norma and Melinda Tankard Reist, Prostitution Narratives documents the reality of prostitution revealing the cost to the lives of women and girls.
Book Reviews

Haifa Fragments by khulud khamis
Haifa Fragments is a book of hope, delusion, and pain; it is a most welcome addition to Palestinian literature, especially as it sheds light on subjects often considered taboo. It must be read by anyone who wants to understand the social and cultural mechanism of a fragmented society that lives under several layers of oppression, both old and new. —Mahmoud Muna, This Week in Palestine

Lupa and Lamb by Susan Hawthorne
The tone of this text is optimistic. “One by one, change comes” This hope is helped along by the fine dashes of humour that spice this serious book. —Susan Pyke, Plumwood Mountain

The Coral Battleground by Judith Wright
Read as history, the book is a guide to what territory was covered, a clue to what needs to be watched in the future – and a testimonial to the many many people who worked toward what they had hoped would be a lasting solution.—Mary Cresswell, Plumwood Mountain
The Mad Poet's Tea Party by Sandy Jeffs
It’s clear poetry is Jeffs’s world; it permeates ordinary human existence, doing its best to withstand insanity and capitalism.— Michael Farrell, The Australian
