Author of Adoption Deception, Penny Mackieson recently presented a paper at the Fifth International Conference on Adoption Research held in Auckland, New Zealand. In her book Adoption Deception: A personal and professional journey Penny gives a passionate, heart-wrenching and unflinchingly honest account of one woman’s life as an adopted person and her campaign for change. She presents a compelling argument for Permanent Care instead of adoption for vulnerable children unable to be raised by their families in the light of continuing issues of exploitation, identity loss and the priority given to adults’ wishes over children’s rights.  Author and Publisher Susan Hawthorne is currently in India and taking part in the Apeejay Kolkata Literary Festival held in Calcutta. Her sessions include Poetry Polyphony where poets read from their work in Hindi, Bengali, Urdu, English and a debate “Poets are the unacknowledged legislators of the world” where Susan is joined by Bashabi Fraser, Chandrani Biswas, and Rui Coias.
 
Rachel Moran author of Paid For: My Journey Through Prostitution was in Luxembourg for a conference on prostitution, advocating the Nordic model.
So what is the Nordic model?
At its core, it decriminalises the act of selling sex and criminalises the act of buying it. It also puts emphasis on exit programs for those who want to get out of the trade, including social services for the victims.
