Congratulations to Spinifex Publishers, Susan Hawthorne and Renate Klein who are the proud recipients of the 2015 George Robertson Award for service in the publishing industry. A recipient of the award must have more than 30 years of service in the publishing industry, be respected among colleagues and members of the industry, and to be currently employed in the publishing industry, or recently retired. Both Susan and Renate are both actively involved in the day to day running of Spinifex Press, an award-winning independent feminist press which has been publishing innovative and controversial feminist books for twenty-four years.

Bibliodiversity: A Manifesto for Independent Publishing
by Susan Hawthorne has now been translated and co-published by 5 publishers into Arabic: Med Ali (Tunisia), Atlas Publishing (Syria), Dar Al Farabi (Lebanon), Al Intishar (Lebanon), Elain Publishing (Egypt).

Anne Ostby, author of Town of Love, a raw and gripping story that is guaranteed to leave you breathless, took part in a panel discussion of "Women and Literature" on Saturday, March 21st at the ASEAN Literary Festival, held in Jakarta. Co-panelists were Indonesian Zubaidah Djohar and Japanese Kyoko Yoshida. The central theme for this year's festival was the need to challenge what are considered the norms of today: consumerism, information technology, and social media, which have to a great degree altered the lifestyle and way of thinking in Indonesia and the other ASEAN countries. In this vein, the motto for the 2015 festival was a proud and ambitious one: "Questions of Conscience".
AUTHOR AWARDS
 
Author of The Wounded Breast, Evelyne Accad has received the Takrim I'lam al-Thakafyah fi Lubnan wal Alam al Arabi: Honor of Cultural World of Thinkers from Lebanon and the Arab World award in recognition and in honor of Lebanese and Arab thinkers for the year 2015. The ceremony took place at the Cutural Center of Antelias in Lebanon with many dignitaries and intellectuals, including Georges Corm, a well-known and reputed intellectual and ex-minister of finance in Lebanon.

An exciting May event - Lovers of poetry and nature are in for a real treat at the 2015 Margaret River Readers & Writers Festival with the inclusion of Dr Susan Hawthorne.
Susan Hawthorne is the author of six collections of poetry, two chapbooks and a verse novel as well as a novel and three works of non-fiction.
