Lucy Scholes, writing for The National, has this to say about Atta's 2013 novel A Bit of Difference: "Everything about this novel is real and tangible; it’s a truthful and deeply thoughtful portrait of the contemporary African diaspora – corruption, crime, bigotry, Aids and malaria versus cultural disassociation and ingrained, but ignored, racism."
While the DailyMail says, "The result is a shrewd, quietly fearless and often witty novel that triumphantly succeeds in being both politically thought-provoking and emotionally engaging."
Suniti Namjoshi's new book Suki has been receiving some fantastic pre-release praise. Somak Ghoshal for Live Mint and the Wall Street Journal says, "Only a sure-footed cat can bring one to truth that is so pithy—and yet so profound." LOTL said, "Suki is a warm and highly relatable tale that is well-paced and thoughtful." Writer's Edit also had nothing but praise for Suniti's thoughtful new book: "I related to many things as both a writer and a reader, and was left with a feeling of contemplation about life and art that not many other books can instill. I would recommend it to any writer for it’s original structure and concept, but also for it’s sharp and profound observations about life itself."
Suniti was also interviewed by The Times of India, discussing gender prejudice in literature.
The Halifax Media Co-Op reviewed Vandana Shiva's Making Peace with the Earth. Reviewer Jane Hudson said, “Not only is corporate power converging with state power for the great resource grab, corporate-state power is emerging as militarised power to undemocratically impose an unsustainable and unjust agenda on the earth and its people.”
Tristan Foster wrote a stunning review of Beryl Fletcher's novella Juno & Hannah for Verity La: "The river is a handy motif. The story too flows and meanders like a running river, snaking in on itself before straightening, only to begin to curl again. The pace has the effect of smoothing the narrative out, keeping it consistent as mysteries rise or as they are resolved. It works to ensure that what is a complex story never loses focus."
Sue Terry also reviewed Juno & Hannah on her Whispering Gums book blog: "There’s something about Fletcher’s direct narrative style evoking an almost other-worldly setting that drew me in. I didn’t want to put it down."

The Spinifex team would like to extend hearty congratulations to author Lara Fergus, for her appointment as the Director of Policy and Evaluation of the Foundation to Prevent Violence against Women and their Children.
Lara is the author of Edmund White Award-winning debut My Sister Chaos.

Meghan Murphy for Feminist Current conducted an insightful and thought-provoking interview with Kajsa Ekis Ekman, author of Being and Being Bought. A big focus of the interview was on prostitution, Kajsa had this to say: "A century later, the feminist movement has happened and while people are still defending this institution, the discourse has changed. People don’t want talk about men and women, they want to talk about it in market terms. But it’s still very much a gendered issue — I mean, the buyers are almost 100% men and the sellers, at least here in Sweden, are at least 90% women." Lastly, Kajsa wonderd "Why should we legalize a 'job' that has such high rates of abuse, murder, rape, & sexual harassment?" Her book Being and Being Bought: Prostitution, Surrogacy and the Split Self is an absolute must-read in this debate!
Kajsa was also interviewed by Rosa (For Reproductive rights, against Oppression, Sexism and Austerity).
