When acclaimed novelist, Christina Stead, challenged Finola Moorhead to write a book with no men in it, the result was an inventive narrative structure of wondrous prose which went on to become an Australian feminist classic.

A playful, mythical and magical book, Remember the Tarantella has just been re-released. This new edition includes cover art by Suzanne Bellamy (“Starship” porcelain 1989). As well as an Afterword and an interview with the author and novelist Sue Woolfe about the writing of Remember The Tarantella, complete with diagrams and extracts from early drafts. (The interview was first published in Making Stories: How ten Australian novels were written by Sue Woolfe and Kate Grenville, A&U, 2001.)

EVENTS

In September we have two new releases, Big Porn Inc: Exposing the Harms of the Global Pornography Industry and Bite Your Tongue. The former is an international collaboration with over thirty contributors and experts from Australia and overseas. It is a fearless book and bond to change the way you think about pornography. The latter is memoir/fiction and a story of great heart and humour. There will be plenty happening in several states around the release of both these titles so stay tuned. Susan Hawthorne will be appearing in two events at the Brisbane Writers Festival: A Greek Tragedy: Collision of the Ancient and Modern World and Losing Language, Losing Knowledge.

Susan Hawthorne will deliver the key note address - Publishing Change see Bibliodiversity - for the Australian and New Zealand Society of Indexers Inc.

NEWS WRAP

Spinifex Press would like to congratulate all the winners in this year's Dobbie Literary Awards. Our very own Lara Fergus was nominated for her debut book, My Sister Chaos. Due to prior commitments, Lara was unable to attend on the night. Susan Hawthorne travelled up for the event and Lara's mother was presented with a certificate on Lara's behalf.
