Melbourne's The Age newspaper is running a commemorative edition for the bushfires this weekend which will feature poems by Susan Hawthorne on Friday 7 and Trish Sykes on Saturday 8. Trish and Sue are also taking part in a poetry night at Readings Carlton on Monday 10 August.
The Ngarrindjeri of the Lower Murray River and Coorong have told the South Australian state government that the construction of regulators will seriously damage Aboriginal sites. While the state government has acknowledged the pain and loss to Ngarrindjeri, they have determined to proceed, putting the Ngarrindjeri in a position where it must bear witness to the damage, loss and disturbance.
