Having personally met the survivors of trafficking about whom this is written, I know that Anne Ostby’s novel deserves world attention. It is the essence of a terrible truth that must be exposed.
Gloria Steinem
A forceful and brutal novel about powerlessness, but also a heart-warming story about love – and about hope. It’s a novel that wakes you up, that makes you reflect on the value of a human being!

The ambition and sensitivity of Ostby's vision open the mind to the plight of a society demeaned by how it treats its most vulnerable members.

Ostby has included a glimmer of hope into this novel, which is based on her own numerous visits to the prostitutes in northern India...Ostby knows her India, and her writing is clear and unsentimental.

Anne Ostby's portrayal of the Nats is horrifying, but also beautiful. Her novel depicts the most degrading of attitudes towards women, but at the same time conveys love, hope, compassion, and warmth.
Gunn Magni Galaaen,

A strong and engaging story and a novel definitely worth reading.

Warning: These books are not for the faint of heart. Some of what is revealed most of us never heard before. Never even thought about it. It will sound quite unbelievable, even with our own American history of centuries of the ultimate trafficking in human flesh.
Alice Walker
Town of Love by Anne Ostby tells a story that arguably has not previously been discussed quite so openly, beautifully, and sorrowfully in literature before. It is a depressing read, yes, but it also has a welcome aura of hope, and belief in the human spirit.

Remarkably, Town of Love is not simply about the horrors of prostitution. It is a well-written novel with fully developed characters. The plot is fast-moving and draws readers into what is happening.

This tale is raw but honest, it's current and, in the words of writer and feminist activist Gloria Steinem, "a terrible truth that must be exposed".
